I like the second thesis better. It doesn't seem to be as vague because it lists some more specifics about how the media affects America's children. I think that maybe you need to specifiy "media" because that encompasses a lot. I'm not sure if you are talking about the internet, newspapers, TV shows, commercials,...etc.
I definitely agree with udsst, the second thesis is better. You can include the negative and positive affects in your paper as you talk about the different areas you specified.
The second thesis is my favorite also. To me, what you mean by the "growing media" is more " growing/increased exposure to media" as well as more forms of media entertainment. Possibly you should delineate your scope in a direction like that.
Thesis 2 appears to be superior due to its specificity. Thesis 1 is too vague... which allows for more content, but a very wobbly base.
The more specific a person is, the harder the information is to get, but has a incredibly stronger effect on the reader and will be an overall better paper.
"Growing Media" lets you explain HOW the media has grown and will let you expand on EXACTLY what is affecting children.
